Gathering Song

This Is My Father's World  #111

This is my Father's world, and to my listening ears all nature sings,

   and 'round me rings the music of the spheres.

This is my Father's world:

I rest me in the thought of rocks and trees, of skies and seas —

His hand the wonders wrought.

This is my Father's world, the birds their carols raise,

the morning light, the lily white, declare their Maker's praise.

This is my Father's world:  He shines in all that's fair;

 in the rustling grass I hear Him pass; He speaks to me everywhere.

This is my Father's world, O let me ne'er forget

that though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the ruler yet.

This is my Father's world:  The battle is not done;

Jesus who died shall be satisfied, and earth and heaven be one.

Call to Worship

Let us worship God.

He is our refuge and our fortress, our God, in whom we trust.

Let us confess with our mouths, “Jesus is Lord,” And believe in our hearts

that God raised him from the dead. Everyone who calls on the name of the

Lord will be saved. Let us call upon our true God, believing  him in our

 hearts, confessing him with our mouths, and worshipping him in spirit and in truth.

based on Psalm 91:2; Romans 10:9

The Prayer of Invocation

Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing  #457

Come, Thou Fount of every blessing, tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it, mount of Thy unchanging love.

Here I raise my Ebenezer; hither by Thy help I’m come;

And I hope, by Thy good pleasure, safely to arrive at home.

Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God;

He, to rescue me from danger, interposed His precious blood.

O to grace how great a debtor daily I’m constrained to be!

Let Thy goodness, like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to Thee.

Prone to wander — Lord, I feel it — prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it; seal it for Thy courts above.

Corporate Confession of Sin

O God, you demonstrated your love for us in that while we were sinners, Christ

died for us. And while we were your enemies you reconciled us to yourself by

the death of your son and have saved us by his life. We have sinned against

you and against one another. We confess that we have not always used sober

 judgement but have thought more highly of ourselves than we ought. We

 have not regularly benefited one another with those gifts you gave us; or

 we have exercised those gifts only for ourselves. With the tax collector

 we bow our heads and beat our breasts, saying: God, be merciful

 to me, a sinner! Amen.

Based on Romans 5:8-10; 12:3-6; Luke 18:13-14

Private Confession of Sin

The Assurance of Pardon

"Let each of you truly acknowledge that he is a sinner, humbling himself before God,

and believe that the heavenly Father wills to be gracious unto him in Jesus Christ. To all those  that repent in this way, and look to Jesus Christ for their salvation, I declare that

the absolution of sins is effected, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, according to God's Word: 'Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.

From John Calvin’s Strasbourg Liturgy, 1545

The Peace
Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us forgive one another.
The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.  And also with you.

In Christ Alone

In Christ alone my hope is found; He is my Light, my strength, my song.

This Cornerstone, this solid ground,

Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.

What heights of love, what depths of peace

When fears are stilled – when strivings cease.

My Comforter, my all in all – here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone, who took on flesh, fullness of God in helpless Babe …

This gift of love and righteousness,

Scorned by the ones He came to save …

'Til on that cross, as Jesus died, the wrath of God was satisfied,

For every sin on Him was laid: here in the death of Christ I live.

There in the ground His body lay, Light of the world by darkness slain.

Then bursting forth in glorious day, up from the grave He rose again!

And as He stands in victory, sin's curse has lost its grip on me;

For I am His and He is mine: bought with the precious blood of Christ.

No guilt in life, no fear in death: this is the power of Christ in me.

From life's first cry to final breath, Jesus commands my destiny.

No power of hell, no scheme of man can ever pluck me from His hand;

'Til He returns or calls me home, here in the power of Christ I'll stand.

Tithes and Offerings

Our offering is an act of worship where we respond to the goodness and

mercy of God with our gratitude and reliance on Him for all things. If you

 are our guest today,please feel under no obligation to give. If you would like to give

a tithe or offering today there will be someone with an offering plate standing by the sanctuary doors as you leave.

Hymn of Response

My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less  #521

My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;

I dare not trust the sweetest frame but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

On Christ, the solid rock, I stand!

All other ground is sinking sand; all other ground is sinking sand.

When darkness veils his lovely face, I rest on his unchanging grace.

In every high and stormy gale, my anchor holds within the veil.

His oath, his covenant, his blood support me in the whelming flood.

When all around my soul gives way, He then is all my hope and stay.

On Christ, the solid rock, I stand!

All other ground is sinking sand; all other ground is sinking sand.

When He shall come with trumpet sound, O, may I then in Him be found!

Dressed in his righteousness alone, faultless to stand before the throne.

Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper

We invite all baptized Christians who profess faith in Jesus Christ for their

salvation and are members of congregations that proclaim the Gospel
to join us in taking the Lord’s Supper.

Prayer of Thanksgiving

The Lord be with you!   And also with you.

Lift up your hearts!   We lift them up to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right for us to give thanks and praise.

Most righteous God, we remember in this supper the perfect sacrifice offered

 once on the cross by our Lord Jesus Christ for the sin of the whole world.

In the joy of his resurrection and in the expectation of his coming again,

we offer ourselves to you as holy and living sacrifices.

Together we proclaim the mystery of faith:

Christ has died;  Christ is risen;  Christ will come again.

Words of Institution         1 Corinthians 11:23-26 ESV

The Lord Jesus, on the night when he was betrayed, took bread, and when

he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you.
Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also he took the cup,
after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood.

Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

For as often as you eat the bread and drink the cup,

you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

Doxology  #731

(Tune: “Old Hundredth” from the Genevan Psalter)

Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow;

Praise Him, all creatures here below;

Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;

Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.  Amen.

Benediction

Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and

may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at

the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful;

 he will surely do it.

1 Thessalonians 5:23-24
